packing ‘light-ish’ for a sunny destination

There is nothing better than taking a warm sunny vacation in December. You leave during winter when it’s cold AF, work is not busy, and you go into the new year with a sunny glow. So this year, Jamaica is on the agenda (eek! tres excited).

Here is a light packing list (depending on your definition of “light”) of what’s coming for a 6 day trip:

  • 4-5 dresses a mix of sun and nice to take you from day to night
  • 4-5 bathing suits / bikinis + 2-3 coverups/sarongs- for two reasons; one consider the photos and two, Jamaica is pretty humid so things take long to dry
  • 3 pairs of shorts + 4 tops for when clothing is not optional
  • 1 pair of running shoes + 3 pairs of socks  for any adventures or if a workout seems like a good idea
  • 2 hats one for the beach and baseball cap for adventures
  • 1-2 bottles of sunscreen for the body and face because it’s not the 70’s anymore
  • 2 pairs of flip flops a backup in case a pair breaks
  • Frizz control products  no one wants ‘Monica hair’
  • 1 raincoat mainly to protect the ‘coiff’ to not experience above
  • 1 light sweater – in case it gets chilly…however, it will be 24 degrees at night but you never know
  • 1 waterproof phone case – always a good idea to keep sand and water out of your phone
  • 2 pairs of sunglasses – a nice pair and a cheap pair depending on where adventures takes you
  • plastic bags – to keep wet / dirty clothes aside from all your other items
  • 1 bottle of Aloe Vera – to fight the burn
  • 1 crossbody bag – for walking around town
  • 1 beach bag – to carry all your goodies

Things that sometimes slip through the cracks:

  • toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, nail file, face wash), deodorant, headphones, lipbalm, tweezers, hair ties, any pills (vitamins, birth control, medication), phone charger, pen, hair brush and comb, antibacterial hand gel, undergarments, PJ’s, Q-tips

Pro tips:

  • Bring $1 USD and $5 USD for tipping
  • Minimal cosmetics – you’ll have a glow from the sun so no need
  • Optional insulated mug – if you want to avoid having to walk to the bar a million times to fill your tiny drink cup, bring an insulated cup. It will also keep your drink cold and avoid any sand getting in
  • For travellers heading to Jamaica, camouflage clothing is illegal so keep this print at home

Anything we missed? Let us know so we don’t forget to pack it 🙂

xo, late & lovely
