We’ve been stuck in a bit of a rut lately, with inconsistent gym attendance and a spotty diet. We were feeling pretty sluggish, and routinely crashing hard at 3 p.m. on weekdays. After tweaking our diet by cutting out junk, we looked for additional options to enhance our sense of well being and energy levels. Enter: Greens + Extra Energy.
Its tagline of “100% energy 0% crash, all clean” intrigued us, so we picked up a 13g tub (around $35) from Co-Op Midtown Market (also sold at Superstore, Community Foods, and major grocers). First-timers are recommended to only take 1/3 of a scoop and shake with 1.5 cups of cold water. Once you get used to it, work your way up to a full scoop. Each scoop has a full serving of greens, and a whole host of essential nutrients:
- Taste: we found the Orange flavour very easy to get used to, and worked our way up to a full scoop in a few days. The Cappuccino flavour takes a bit more getting used to – while tasty, it’s a wee bit sweet for our liking.
- Energy levels: awesome! We drink this every morning and instantly felt alert and ready to take on the day. We stayed away from coffee to see how well the product would work, and we were pleasantly surprised. The first couple weeks we didn’t experience our mid-afternoon crash at all, but that feeling slowly started to creep in after the third week. Adding a green tea in the afternoon helped to combat those feelings.
- Price: this product is a bit pricey – our $35 ‘tester’ only lasted a couple weeks, and we’re hoping the larger $65 tub lasts us at least a month. However, if you factor in the cost savings of no longer needing to buy coffee on a daily basis, it’s not too bad
- Other: we were pleased to discover we didn’t need to rely on our morning coffee to wake us up anymore. Plus, we felt less bloated and more alert, likely due to the nutrients in the ‘Greens’ part. However, we both love the taste of coffee, so still indulge on the weekends
The Greens+ brand has a ton of variations, like Greens+ O, Greens+ Daily Detox, Greens+ Bone Builder, Greens+ Healthy Skin, and so on. Has anyone tried these? Would love to hear your thoughts!
