detoxifying our beauty products with ThinkDirty app

While getting our monthly vajajay wax at Frilly Lilly we were making small talk with our waxer about natural beauty products which led to her mentioning the app ‘ThinkDirty‘. She explained that the app allows you to scan your beauty products and measures the levels of toxic ingredients your products contain. Immediately intrigued, we rushed our hairless parts out of there and went home to download the app.

The thought of finding out our favourite beauty products could be doing more harm than good was terrifying. However, the thought of us putting toxic and carcinogenic products on our largest organ, our skin, was even more.

The ThinkDirty app is quite simple. All you have to do is scan your product, and the app will reveal:

  • Carcinogenicity of the product
  • Developmental & Reproductive Toxicity
  • Allergenicity & Immunotoxicity

Each area gets a rating from 1-10:

We’ve always tried to make better choices when buying products, and thought we were making good choices but the app put a lot of things into perspective. The main key learning, is just because a product is labeled “Natural” or a brand has a natural or “better for you” image, does not mean it’s good for your skin. Here are a few products that had higher rankings on ThinkDirty than we thought they would:

So many brands tend to sell you the same things at varying price points, but are all these “new ingredients” really going to make us look 10 years younger and glow from within? If anything, we’ve become more skeptical as we’re getting older and the prime target demographic of these massive brands selling magic topical solutions.

Follow along as we explore 100% natural products including essential oils, deodorants (not antiperspirants) and more!

xo, late & lovely
